Kashrut
Kosher meat
Since shechita is forbidden in Norway, kosher meat isn't easy to come by...
Kosher meat is not available at all in Trondheim. The nearest shop is the
"Kosher Mat A/S" (tel. +47 2260 9166) near the synagogue in Oslo.
Parve and dairy (milkhig/chalav)
Cheese and bread are more often than not non-kosher in Norway. However,
there is a relatively wide range of foods available in regular shops all
over Norway that can be considered kosher. For an extensive list, see the
Kosher
list from DMT Oslo
(Rabbi Jason Rappoport). You can read about how the list was made &
some disclaims here.
Wine
It's usually possible to buy kosher wine in the state wine shops in Norway.
But usually the only available wine is Adom Atic. Some other kosher wines
can be specially ordered.
Bread
You can buy kosher bread from Helios (health food shops). The breads
made by "Den Gode Landhandel" are kosher parve.
Some generally available pre-packed breads are kosher. These include many types
of Ryvita, Wasa, and Korni crispbreads (crackerbreads)
and flatbread, and some of the rolls from Hatting. Please confer with
the kosher list
for more exact information.
