Shabbat
Candle lighting times and parshiyot
- The daylight hours vary greatly in places so far north. In Trondheim, sunset
can be as early as 2:30 PM around winter solstice, and as late as 11:38 PM
around summer solstice. And around midsummer it never gets dark enough to
see 3 stars on Saturday night.
- The custom of the Jewish community in Trondheim is to start Shabbat
and Yom tov at 5:30 PM and end at 6:30 PM throughout
the year.
- There is usually a Friday night service every second week (odd week
number). The service always starts at 5:30 PM throughout the year.
- Shabbat services ('Shaharith') are held only on special occasions.
- In July there are normally no services.
- If you are shomer shabbat and wish to go by traditional halakhic
times, you'll find a table of candle lighting times for Trondheim
here.
